About Us

Off the Shelf Farm was started in 2018 by Anna Houston & Rob Perazzo.
We met interning at North Plain Farm where we milked cows, raised beef, pork, chicken, eggs, and made hay. Rob went to work at Kinderhook Farm and we would commute to see each other, Anna leaving at 4am to go milk the cows. In our time working on other farms we learned about humane animal husbandry, rotational grazing, and community building.

In 2018 when it was time for new things, we decided we weren't getting any yo,unger and it was time to pull our dreams Off the Shelf. With no land and no money, we built our first layer hen coop and that first season raised 700 layers, 150 meat birds and 13 lambs on neighbors' land. We started attending the Great Barrington Farmers' Market hat very first season and today we are still there selling our meats, eggs, famous egg sandwiches, sausage sandwiches, lamb burgers and more.

Fast forward to 2025, we now raise 3000 laying hens, 6000 broiler chickens, 80 pigs, and 30 lambs every year (in addition to our son Louis who was born 2023!). We are proud to have stuck to our original principles of pasture-raised, rotational grazing, and humane treatment of animals, and recently have transitioned to feeding all organic feed on our farm, something we weren't sure would ever be possible given the cost. We believe that our high standard of farming practices, now paired with a certified organic feed, is creating some of the most nutritious and delicious food around.

Off the Shelf Farm is in the process of securing a long term lease through the Berkshire Community Land Trust's Farmstead for Farmers for 80 acres of farmland in Great Barrington where Off the Shelf currently resides and will live permanently.

Off the Shelf Farm is fortunate to have strong partnerships with Berkshire Grown, Tri-Corner FEED, and the People's Pantry of Great Barrington, who are working to fight food insecurity and get our food into the hands of folks who need it. These programs are incredibly important to us and our community! We believe it only furthers our goals as farmers to feed everyone, but we couldn't do it alone.

We are proud and stubborn farmers that believe in producing the highest quality food for our community. We work 7 days a week with integrity, care, and purpose. Your support is what makes it all possible. Thank you for being here!
